Congratulations to Commissioner Commendation Recipients Officers Steven Horne & Robert Lucas: On Tuesday, September 9, 2014, the Andrew Square Convenience Store was robbed by a male suspect who, during the course of the robbery, threatened the store employee with a hypodermic needle. The suspect escaped with over seven hundred dollars. The next day, September 10, 2014, while en route to a community meeting, Captain Greland and Officer Horne were discussing the robbery when they observed an individual matching the description of the suspect standing outside the Stop and Shop. Upon seeing the suspect, with assistance from a nearby detail officer, Officer Robert Lucas, they approached the suspect and took him into custody. A search of the suspect enabled officers to locate and seize two hypodermic needles. The suspect later admitted to the rob- beries and stated he would have continued had he not been apprehended. For their keen observa- tions and effective apprehension of a dangerous felon, Captain Greland, Officer Steven Horne & Officer Bobby Lucas are hereby awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation. Letters and emails received in the Commission- er’s Office commending the following members : Officer Philip Barden for his assistance to specta- tors during the Patriots Rally, as well as other officers who were kind and professional toward parade goers throughout the rally. H H H H H H H H H Several letters were received thanking officers for their assistance during the snow storms; several includ- ed thanking officers for assisting elderly and others with snow removal and rides, including Sergeant Sam Silta, Officers Walter Suprey, Stephen Law, GeraldAjemian and Daniel McMorrow and Sergeant Gino Provenzano who was thanked by the Visiting Nurses Association. Officer Lenin Ortiz &Vladimir Xavier were thanked for the way they defused a neighborhood dispute during a snow storm. H H H H H H H H H Sergeant Detective Rick Johnson, in partnership with the U.S. Marshal’s Service, for apprehending a lev- el 3 sex offender. This letter was from a victim of crime who noted, “Words will never express how grateful I am for an exceptional job in capturing the suspect.” H H H H H H H H H Officer William Henry for his assistance to a motor- ist following an accident. The resident also noted how helpful all of theA-15 staff was following this incident. H H H H H H H H H Officer Robert Boyle for keeping an eye on a resi- dent’s property while the individual was having surgery. H H H H H H H H H Officer Jamila Gales for assisting a resident who was being harassed by a neighbor. The victim’s mother wrote to say thank you to Officer Gales and to extend thanks to all of Boston’s many other peace officers. H H H H H H H H H Officer Elizabeth Philbin and John Kacvinsky for the kindness and compassion shown to a resident who needed guidance to file a restraining order. The resident was very grateful for the kind assistance and for going the extra effort in her case. H H H H H H H H H Officer Charles Vest for the assistance he provided during a snow storm in which illegal dumping was tak- ing place in a residential neighborhood. H H H H H H H H H Officers Jeremiah Goodwin and MeghanWalsh were commended by the Transit Police for assistance they provided following a shooting incident at the For- est Hills Station. Based on the descriptions provided the Officers located the suspects and took them into custody. The commander notes, “We at the Transit Police Department are grateful for the work done by Officers Goodwin andWalsh and appreciate their cour- age, partnership and commitment to service.” H H H H H H H H H Captain Haseeb Hosein and Officer Cynthia Brew- ington for assistance provided at a Night OutYouth Event. H H H H H H H H H Sergeant Detective Eric Bulman and Officer Mat- thew Hogardt for their assistance in the U.S. Marshal’s protective intelligence investigation. Due to this joint investigation, the subject plead guilty to charges of impersonation of a Deputy U.S. Marshal. H H H H H H H H H Officers Antonette Ramsay and Rafael Rodriguez were thanked by a parent for including her daughter in a trip to attend a Boston Celtics basketball game, noting that the officers helped make her dream come true. H H H H H H H H H Lieutenant Detective Michael Conley, Lt. James Fitzgerald and Ms. Jennifer Gillis for the assistance they provided to the UMass Dartmouth Department of Pub- lic Safety. The Chief noted that, “their efforts helped to avoid a potentially violent confrontation at the campus and that this incident truly reflects the best of policing when agencies share valuable information that insures the safety of all our communities; truly shows the value of the Boston Regional Intelligence Center.” H H H H H H H H H Detective Mary McInness, Officers William Carroll, StevenAshman, William Cloran and Ethan Cole for the assistance and resources they provided at the wake and funeral of a retired Boston Police Officer. The family noted that, “It’s honorable and so respectful that the Boston Police Department continues the tradition.” H H H H H H H H H Officer Mario Lozano for his assistance and support after a 3 story high icicle crashed on the owner’s car. H H H H H H H H H Officer Richard Litto for the assistance he provided to the residents of Waltham Street on a neighborhood walk and for the services he found for a homeless man in need. H H H H H H H H H Officers Christopher Goodman, Michael Kelley, Stephen Doran, John Connolly, Matthew Hogardt and Jahad Hasan for their participation at the naturalization ceremony at the JFK Library. H H H H H H H H H Officer Vaden Scantlebury was observed by a passer-by on Clarendon Street assisting a man who had just completed the Boston Marathon and collapsed. After a time, no medical assistance was needed, but the visitor was impressed that the officer picked up this gentleman and carried him to a waiting taxi. H H H H H H H H H Officers Dawn Gillis and Michael Saltalamacchia for the assistance they provided to the Milton Police Department with K-9 sweeps of Milton High School on a call for mutual aid. After an extensive search a loaded firearm was recovered. H H H H H H H H H Officer KevinWatson for the assistance he provided to a civilian changing a flat tire and transportation to LoganAirport. The visitor noted, “It was a bad day for me, but in a way he made it a good day.” H H H H H H H H H Detective Michael Aziz for the assistance he pro- vided by escorting a woman in labor to the hospital. H H H H H H H H H Officer Troy Caisey for the assistance he provided to the Newburyport Police Department with establish- ing a K-9 Unit. H H H H H H H H H Detective Stephen McManus for the assistance he provided to residents after a fire on Manthorne Road. H H H H H H H H H Officers Jack McCarthy and Julie Colburn for their efforts and support of a visiting law enforcement family while they daughter was hospitalized in Boston.
